Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) betweenMinistry of Education and
Save the Children Norway (SCN) in Lao PDR
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Ministry of Education and Save the Children Norway in Lao PDR (SCN) was held at Ministry of Education on Friday morning, 29th March 2002.

Mounphoxay, Vice Minister of MOE honor the ceremony while Mr. Khamhoung
Sacklokham, Director of General Education Department, on behalf of MoE
and Dr. Bengt Ageros, Regional Representative of SCN in Lao PDR singed
the MOU. The representative of other Departments within MoE, UNICEF and
SC/UK also present.
During 2002, SCN will make available USD253,000
to MoE.
During 2003 and 2004 SCN has guaranteed the MoE an annual minimum of USD200,000.
The activities supported under the MOU are: Cluster School, Multi-grade Teaching Improvement, Upgrading of Teachers, Community Based Early Childhood Development,and Education forVulnerable Children.
SCN opened its office in Lao in early January 1997. It has supported Lao government to improve basic education since 1980s.The objective of MOU between MoE and SCN is to extend support to Basic Education Projects implementation in Lao PDR for the third period, 2002 to 2004.
The project will be implemented in three provinces: Luang Prabang and Bolikhamxay and Xaysomboun Special Zone. Altogether covering 12 districts.
